Aside from the sites, a lot of that list is very unhealthy. Maybe Leaving Las Vegas should have be set in Dublin.

Spent a bit of time on Dallas over the last 6 months. It seems to be booming alright and there is a lot of infrastructure stuff going on there. Dallas Forth Worth is a massive sprawling conurbation though and one could easily end up spending a lot of time on the freeway...Definitely a superior quality of life in Austin.

As for the bay area, I can only speak about the film scene and everyone is getting lots of work from tech companies. Things dropped off severely a couple of years ago but its been up and up since. Its very difficult to find good people for production these days as companies seem to have unlimited funds for video and web communications budgets. There is also loads of work around for good designers, ui people, web designers...

Does anybody know anything about the level of remittances (if any) sent by emigrants back to Ireland (e.g. half of an unemployed couple emigrating, living on the cheap and paying the mortgage from abroad, rather than surrendering the house and carrying the debt)?
I'm just wondering, because for poorer countries, that is often one of the most efficient forms of capital transfer. Could our situation have got to the point where people find it's worth doing yet?

5,350 filled and it's only May!
I'm still waiting on mine the process is taking months.

Interesting. Asylum figures 10% of what they were. So, is it safe to say at least 90% of asylum claims were pulling the piss?

Yeah, it's quite remarkable how the levels of opression of various peoples in certain African countries seems to fluctuate with the fortunes of our economy!

The number of asylum seekers has been declining at a steady rate since 2001. There doesn't seem to be any relation to the Irish economic condition. Don't let that stop ye making unfounded assertions.
