This is a very slow motion car crash. Many things are predictable and were predicted years in advance.
There does not appear to be any great change coming so what can you actually do to insulate yourself and if you have one, your family, now and in the future.

Not a whole lot IMO... Just focus on finding the things and people in life that bring u joy and look to make the most of that.
Capitalism is like a roulette wheel... Ull end up throwing it all away if u get duped into thinking u can beat the game.

Was that not in part the root cause of our current problem?

Cash is king. Do not buy property today. Do not sign up to any form of a pension plan today...I'm still working on the rest.

Stop paying your mortgage. Transfer the cash overseas and wait.

The Germans say it's all Ireland's fault
Quote:
Wolfgang Schauble, Germany's powerful federal minister for finance, has said it is all Ireland's fault its banks collapsed, plunging the economy into a deep recession, and absolves reckless European bondholders of all blame.

In a frank interview for a new documentary called State Secrets and Bank Bailouts, Schauble dismisses claims that European bondholders should be made share in the responsibility for unsustainably pumping up Ireland's banking system with billions.

"The cause in Ireland is something Ireland itself created – not Luxembourg, not France, not Germany, but Ireland – and it benefited from it for some time," Schauble claims.
"Then everyone has to bear the consequences of a wrong-headed policy."
Wolfgang Schauble, Germany's powerful federal minister for finance, has said it is all Ireland's fault its banks collapsed, plunging the economy into a deep recession, and absolves reckless European bondholders of all blame.

Everyone should solve their own problems. If everyone swept in front of their own door, the whole neighbourhood would be clean," the German politician added.

Everyone for themselves. Sweep your own doorstep.

Fine, the only point is that the Irish Central Bank is part of the ECB, independent of the Irish or any other political process. Ultimate regulation of the Eurozone banking sector lay with the ECB. Reports went to ECB in Frankfurt every month for years showing the property concentration of the Irish bank's balance sheets. Every month every year 2001-2008 and beyond.
Let's not rewrite history.

So your point is that the ECB should have saved us from our own stupidity and therefore they're somehow responsible?

I'd have thought that that's the ECB's purpose. Why else give it a mandate to regulate banks?

If everyone in Ireland swept their own doorstep the middle of the street would be filthy.

The problem is the middle of the street is filthy and nobody sweeps their doorstep

I'm not sure this metaphor has been fully thought through, methinks we need a doorstep tax. I'm sure it would be a hit with the Politicians. Thought Charlie Bird overtime might get hit badly.
