Have about 80k in Anglo. Thinking of asking them to give it to me in cash.

Wondering if they'll give it to me ?

Has anyone else tried this ?

Generally there is an unspecified cash withdrawl limit. I had an issue in Bank of Ireland and was told that they would only give me 5000 Euros (from a current account!) I was surprised. The banks in this cuntry are cruks

Perhaps they might not outright actually refuse you but actually delay the payment methodology. Notice that Bank of Ireland have a 20,000 Euro transfer limit by on-line banking 365 method.
Same with getting your cash from Bank of Ireland. I think that you have to make an appointment to get large cash amounts out and even if you do you may be limited to an upper limit of 5000 Euro per day.

Best bet is set up an appointment with a clerk or manager at the bank and ask the questions there. Be prepared to discover just how irrelevant you are when you are told the answers in regard to Your money!!

I know a couple who tried it with another bank today. The bank tried VERY hard to get them to keep their money with them. Was told to give them notice, so the couple failed to get the cash today, but there doesn't seem to be a problem in principle with giving it to them in cash and expect to have it within one or two working days, whereupon they intend to shift it to a foreign bank immediately.

If you need your cash then you get it no problems, as long as you give the bank enough notice and it is within the terms of the account you have opened i.e Demand deposit, savings, fixed term etc ..

For 80K you need to be given 3 day's so they can organise it.

That is standard practice and nothing to get your nickers in a twist over.

Preferably (not necessary?) you need to make sure you carry as much of the original documentation as possible and necessary are form(s) of ID.

Basically you need to give the bank little or no reason for them not to give you your cash and prove who you are.

If by the very small % chance you cannot get your money, pull up your Iphone and ask them, ever hear of twitter and give them a big juicy smile.

However that is me being a drama queen, cos you wont need to threaten them..

Anglo savings accounts are internet based not branch based. That means that under the terms of their agreement you cannot demand it in cash, you can only demand that they transfer it to another bank or give you a cheque.

Obviously any given bank branch doesn't actually hold much cash at any given time. Given several days notice the cash can be ordered in to facilitate a large withdrawal.

I've never held an account with Anglo but do they actually deal in cash? I always thought the only issued money or took deposits through cheque or electronic banking.

What sort of a clown would walk out of a bank with 80k in cash, what happens if somebody in the bank tips their "buddy" off ?

Probably but be aware that banks are legally obliged to make one of these for large unexplained cash transactions:

Nope. Anglo are not a retail bank. Only retail banks hold cash. Anglo, Rabo, etc. rely on retail banks such as BOI, AIB, Ulster Bank to handle retail side of transaction.

Glad I have nothing to do with anglo then. Transfer it to another Retail bank and make the Withdrawal (if you want/need to)
but ditto comments about removign 80K in cash at once, not very wise imho..
