Amusing how Tom mentions that he bought in 2007 and candidly admits, with a little laugh, that this is why he wants prices to come back up. As far as I am aware, at least one of the other Newstalk pundits who was on also bought around the same time.
One of the callers they had on owned two houses, and supplied anecdotes on three couples he knew who had bought houses in the last three months. Initially, he said he "supposed" that they had managed to sell their houses, but then went on to discuss in detail the process they went through in order to obtain their mortgages. Sounded totally legit...
Another lady who rented, and sounded happy to do so, was asked, incredulously, how she managed to do it, in a tone which would have been appropriate for addressing someone who wore a meatsuit while swimming with sharks.

I did not hear the interview with the renter with a decent deposit who has managed to ignore misleading bullshit like this pushy piece and avoid being chained to an unwieldy mortgage until now and has no intention of buying until there is real value in the market, not relative value. Funny that.

Again, asking someone who makes her money from the sale of houses if buying a house now is a good thing to do. Quick, get me a semi-D in SCD before they go through the roof again.

Carol: One of the four FTB cash buyers we had this month is a civil servant who listened to David McWilliams five/six years ago about the bubble, saved up his money and has just bought.

Just listening - she's really having a go at apartments: "We love our houses and we know that we own the land too but you don't own the land on which your apartment stands, you only have an interest in it, etc...." Lots of stuff about, "transient populations" in apartment developments whereas with houses in mature areas, "we know what we're getting."

Now on Newstalk, Mr. Lowe, the Moneyman.
He doesn't believe that someone can save €200,000 by their early 30's.

Also, more delight that four out of ten current renters could afford a mortgage. No mention that this cohort is exactly the least likely to splurge this hard earned position on a still-overvalued property.
I have to stop listening to newstalk.

Wtf? Myles dungan off the subs bench for pat Kenny was on about this today too with our old friend Karl deeter. I'm afraid I only heard bits as I was otherwise occupied...but Karl was saying about how a dearth of desirable semis in scd does not a recovery make. Must check out the playback

Drive time discussing rise in prices now.

"should we be a little bit excited about these figures?"

12 minutes in before any discussion starts on the papers, the debt piece starts a few minutes later.
