Pretty good line-up.
Might make the trip myself.

No according to me. Taleb is unusually intelligent, he knows it and says so but he's right. Who is your candidate for one of the most intelligent men alive today?

Seems there's another Kilkenomics festival coming up soon, but who can afford to go except the very people it should be laughing at? 20 euros per event (talk, presentation, discussion whatever) and that's before paying for your pints, accommodation, food, travel - difficult to see it costing less than 200 euros per day after attending a few events, so how exactly is this going to excite and motivate poor students, or poor anybody, to get out there and fight for change, no, it won't, it's just an insiders' jolly that will be largely attended by the very people who it should be satirising and excoriating, people who are probably putting the cost of it down on expenses. Fúck em. The organisers will say oh they have to pay for venues and so on but why should there be any fee to hire a venue, especially a pub, when the event is going to bring extra customers in to pay for booze? Cut a deal with the pub and take some of the action to pay for Varoufakis and co. no doubt being paid well to come and flog their books. Pub landlords taking the píss. So yeah, skipping Kilkenomics, they're having a laugh

Varoufakis is a charlatan of the highest order. He charges about £3,000 for speaking in Europe, about half that for university lectures. His fee for speaking outside Europe is in the ten's of thousands. He a expects to be fully comped on his trip. Not a bad wage for someone who got fired for trying to inflict Marxist misery on people.

Saw the program he was hosting last night. He saw no solution to the housing problems. He was not willing to pit his neck on the line about anything. He kept everything about the boom/bust floating on to keep his shows on the road. If he had interest in some social order or conscience or morality about the property issues, he would state real solutions and not keep on talking to promote his books and himself

I thought there were a few suggestions put out on the show.

A use it or lose it land tax
Increased use of housing associations a la Holland post WW2
A ryanair model  for building costs.

The value of these shows at 10pm on tv3 is they may educate and mobilise a small percentage of the masses that another property panic is in full swing under fianna gael. So when they go crying in a few years that nobody told them so and they didn't know what they were signing, there is some evidence that the bleedin obvious was pointed out and broadcast far and wide. But it was largely ignored.

I've gone to a few shows there over the years but on a recent trip back home to Kilkenny I got back shrapnel from a twenty for two drinks for two of us, the jump back decade almost gave me whiplash.

There's a lot of nodding heads at these shows, was only at one that excited the audience. Far too sedate an affair where radicals sit quietly listening to panelists competing to agree with eachother.

Rhythm n roots is the only Kilkenny festival worth the effort now.
