Trump is being led by "fake news" as opposed to the people? Doubt it.

He is doing this at the time of the Chinese Premier visiting. Pretty strategic to me. Hey, you going to help us with North Korea or not? What about that island you made. I don't care about UN resolutions. Boom!

Brings the war mongers onside. Help me out with Health bill there. Oh, Ryan says Health before Tax, look over there, far away. Boom! Nunes? Boom! I bow to Russia? Boom!

Bigly.

A shot across the bows of the Chinese Premier is probably the most likely reason.

Why Is Trump Fighting ISIS in Syria?
The Trump foreign policy team has been all over the map on what to do next in Syria — topple the regime, intensify aid to rebels, respond to any new attacks on innocent civilians. But when pressed, there is one idea everyone on the team seems to agree on: “The defeat of ISIS,” as Secretary of State Rex Tillerson put it.
Well, let me add to their confusion by asking just one question: Why?
Why should our goal right now be to defeat the Islamic State in Syria?

China has warned that "conflict could break out at any moment" as tension over North Korea increases.
Foreign Minister Wang Yi said if war occurred there could be no winner.
Mr Wang's comments come as the US voices increasing concern at North Korea's development of nuclear weapons and deploys a Navy carrier group off the Korean peninsula.

China, North Korea's only backer, fears conflict could cause the regime to collapse and problems on its border.
Mr Wang said: "One has the feeling that a conflict could break out at any moment.
"I think that all relevant parties should be highly vigilant with regards to this situation."
"We call on all parties to refrain from provoking and threatening each other, whether in words or actions, and not let the situation get to an irreversible and unmanageable stage."

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/ ... ce-is-over
Quote:
The US vice-president, Mike Pence, has warned North Korea not to test Donald Trump’s resolve over its nuclear and ballistic missile programmes, adding that the US and its allies were running out of patience with the regime.

Noting that Trump had recently ordered a missile strike against Syria, the vice-president, who is in Seoul at the start of a tour of Asia, said: “North Korea would do well not to test his resolve.”

Pence, standing alongside South Korea’s acting president, Hwang Kyo-ahn, said Washington’s commitment to its ally was “iron-clad and immutable”, and repeated that “all options are on the table” – including military action – to forestall North Korea’s quest to produce a nuclear weapon capable of striking the US mainland.

Any use of nuclear weapons by Pyongyang, he added, would be met with “an overwhelming and effective response”, a day after the regime conducted a failed missile launch.

What can NK do in retaliation?
Quote:
North Korea is powerless to prevent a U.S. strike on its nuclear program, but retaliation is well within its means. The significant military capability that North Korea has built up against South Korea is not advanced by Western standards, but there are practical ways Pyongyang could respond to aggression.

The North Korean military's most powerful tool is artillery. It cannot level Seoul as some reports have claimed, but it could do significant damage. Pyongyang risks deteriorating its forces by exposing them to return fire, however, which significantly restricts their use. Less conventional methods of retaliation, such as sabotage or cyber warfare, are less risky but also limit the shock that North Korea would desire.

Quote:
Regardless of these considerations and constraints on the North Korean side, if Pyongyang embraces the worst-case scenario for Seoul — the indiscriminate targeting of the capital and its suburbs — the damage would still be significant. Some research claims that overall damage and casualties in Seoul would be minimal, but those studies have relied on very conservative data, especially regarding the effective range of North Korean artillery systems. Many findings do not take into account newly deployed, modernized 122-mm multiple launch rocket systems with extended range, or the much more capable 300-mm multiple rocket launchers. If projectile flight distances reach proven ranges (or commonly accepted ones) and involve these new systems, then the northern portion of Seoul could be saturated with fire. Even areas south of the Han River could be within range of 170-mm self-propelled guns, 240-mm multiple rocket launchers or 300-mm multiple rocket launchers, depending on their position on the North Korean side of the DMZ. If every one of Pyongyang's 300-mm multiple rocket launcher systems were directed against Seoul, their range would be sufficient to rain fire across the city and beyond. A single volley could deliver more than 350 metric tons of explosives across the South Korean capital, roughly the same amount of ordnance dropped by 11 B-52 bombers.

All that been said, there's probably no time like the present to make a move on NK. They don't have to get to a stage of threatening the US with nukes - they just need to get to a point where they could lob a few warheads into South Korea.

While the Syrian Arab Army, the Russian aviation and Hezbollah are preparing to finish off Daesh, the Pentagon is planning a new war against Syria, this time with Kurdish troops. Some good news at last. it looks like Raqqa is about to fall and hopefully those medieval ISIS poxbottles with it

The Guardian wrote:
.....Around 300 Isis fighters are all that are thought to be left in the city, clinging to a corner of the capital of their so-called caliphate, which five months of relentless battle has reduced to three annihilated neighbourhoods. The Old City mud wall that had stood for more than a millennium flanks one side of the battleground, and a wasteland that was once an industrial area is on the other. Smoke from burning buildings mixed with raised grey dust from airstrikes shrouds both under an already dull autumn sky.....

....As the terror group’s fighters tire, the men hunting them say the fall of Raqqa has galvanised them. Commanders believe the city will fall within four to six weeks, and there is increasingly nowhere left to hide for the diehard extremists in the rubble and tunnels of what was once the centre of their rule in Syria....

It's a well written article, poignant and reflective.

USC professor Muhammad Sahimi returns to the show to discuss his latest article “Deconstructing Neoconservatives’ Manifesto for War With Iran.” Sahimi debunks the misinformation and lies being spread by John Bolton and other neoconservatives about the Iran Deal, explains in detail the steps Iran has taken to ease tensions with the United States, and lists the many hypocrisies of U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East. Sahimi hammers home the fact that, should the U.S. void the Iran Deal, no country in the future will have reason to trust that the United States will live up to its word in its international agreements. Sahimi and Scott then discuss Iran’s role (or lack thereof) in Yemen and finish with Sahimi documenting the history of the Iranian terrorist group MEK and its flirtation with prominent U.S. Congressmen and Senators.

Moscow denounces US military support to Daesh - -> http://www.voltairenet.org/article198229.html

Quote:
On 6 October 2017, the Russian spokesman (Igor Konachenkov), denounced the support that the US, British and Norwegian armies were providing Daesh in the al-Tanf zone (located at the Syria-Jordan border) [1].

He stated: “the Pentagon representatives have declared several times now that the US, British and Norwegian trainers, covered by the tactical air force and a system for multiple rocket-launch, were training combatants of the Free Syrian Army (FSA). In actual fact, the area where al-Tanf stood has now been transformed into a “black hole” with a 100 km radius on the Jordan-Syrian border. Instead of the FSA, are mobile Daesh troops which, springing out, like a jack-in-a-box, carrying out subversive terrorist attacks against civilians and Syrian troops”.

In the night of 27 and 28 September, around 300 Daesh combatants left the area of Rukban, and, in a large number of 4x4s, pulled up in the town of Al-Qaryatayn (province of Homs). A Daesh Commando “could by-pass all the posts of the Syrian troops hidden throughout the surrounding areas of al-Busairi and this was in no way due to chance”. He explained that the terrorists had the precise details of the Syrian troops “that could only be obtained with the aid of air intelligence following processing by experts. This information had then been carefully transmitted to carry out sabotage and terrorist acts”.

Two weeks ago, the Russian Ministry of Defence had published satellite images evidencing that Daesh and Nato forces were peacefully co-existing in the area controlled by the United States [2].

Looks like Vladimir Putin is on the verge of a diplomatic and military victory over the United States in Syria and both Syrians and Russians are now clearly signalling that the US (NATO) presence in the area is no longer wanted and forcing them into a corner where they have to leave. Speculation is that the Saudis and Turkey are buying the Russian Anti-aircraft system as a hedge against the US being able to turn off any existing systems they have, whether that's true or if its just bribe payments for favours. ISIS is collapsing even NATO countries tried to resurrect alBaghdadi to inspire them.

With ISIS nearly defeated the stage is being set for the second war for which the sabre rattling has startedas Hezbollah has mostly pulled back to its home territory in anticipation of an attack from Israel.

Lebanon has remained stable despite the war in Syria, but once it winds down will the Lebanese situation worsen?
<snip>
Regionally, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are now seeking ways to compensate for the loss of Syria as a place where they could defy and bleed Iran. A renewed desire to reverse their regional fortunes could lead them to try regaining a foothold in Lebanon. The Gulf states, Israel, and the United States do not want Iran to reap the benefits of a victory in Syria. If ever they seek to rebalance the regional relationship with Tehran in the Levant, the only place to do so would be Lebanon, despite the many risks that would accompany such an effort.

In such an event, and despite its reticence to jeopardize its Lebanese sanctuary, Hezbollah could have no choice but to accept such a challenge, especially if there is an Israeli component to it. This would be especially true if Israel were to seek revenge for its frustrating war against the party in 2006, but also because it would allow Hezbollah to place Israel back at the center of its attentions, after years of engagement in Syria.

Prime Minister Hariri's Resignation Threatens Iranian Grip on Lebanon - -> google cache

Exactly a year after being tapped by Lebanon’s president to form a government, Saad Hariri has resigned as prime minister. He didn’t even bother returning to Lebanon to make the announcement; he made it from Saudi Arabia.
<snip>
Thus it seems the real reason stems from what he heard during those two trips to Saudi Arabia, and especially the scathing criticism by Thamer al-Sabhan, the Saudi minister of state for Gulf affairs, of the Lebanese government’s failure to curb Hezbollah and Iranian influence in Lebanon.
Saudi King Salman and his son, Crown Prince Mohammed, are waging an uncompromising war on Iran’s regional influence, so they find it hard to tolerate the continued presence of Hezbollah ministers in Hariri’s cabinet. The Saudis have been gritting their teeth over this since Hariri formed his government a year ago.

The immediate peg for “crunch time” is Russia’s fast-track proposal of a conference to be held in Sochi, with the near-full kaleidoscope of Syrian opposition invited, which, if all goes as planned, might mean 1,000 delegates arriving in Sochi as soon as Nov. 18.

The Syrian government has agreed to attend. Of course, when one hears of attendance in these numbers, it suggests that this is not intended as a “sleeves rolled-up” working session, but rather as a meeting in which Russian thoughts will be mooted on the constitution, the system of government, and the place of “minorities” – with a chaser that Russia wants fresh elections pretty darned quick: which is to say, in six months’ time. In short, this is to be the “last chance saloon” for opposition figures: come aboard now, or be shut out, in the cold.

American envoy in Damascus - > [google translate]
November 03 2017

Quote:
In a move that signals an amendment to the US administration's policy toward the Syrian issue, Damascus received the first official US official, who was undeclared, to represent one of the most prominent US security agencies.
Al-Akhbar learned that the official in charge of a very senior position had arranged to visit him through contacts with friends who were in common with Syria.

He arrived in Beirut earlier this week and traveled by road to Lebanon with Lebanese security escort last Tuesday, where he spent several hours in the presence of a senior Syrian security official before returning to Beirut.

According to information, the envoy was following contacts with US security officials, including CIA Director Michael Pompeo, with Syrian National Security Council Chairman Major General Ali Mamluk. These contacts concern the follow-up of files belonging to missing Americans in Syria, believed to include agents of the US military intelligence, which the United States wants to verify, after the receipt of an official file of extensive data on them.

According to information, the Syrian leadership treated the visit with caution. It seems that Damascus decided to determine the level of officials interviewed by the American guest, without enthusiasm to be received by senior political leaders, especially since the experience with the American side is not encouraging, as the former arrivals to Damascus without any results of their visits. It also appears that Damascus is unwilling to limit its communication with it through the security channel, in addition to the conviction that the presence of US forces on Syrian soil constitutes an occupation factor.

"David" spent hours in Damascus and stressed that "our goal is only encouraging" and no intention to stay in Syria

Israel launches airstrikes in Syria, targets weapons factory: Reports - -> https://www.thenational.ae/world/mena/i ... s-1.672272

Quote:
For the second time in less than three weeks, Israel launched targeted airstrikes inside Syria on Wednesday night according to Lebanese media reports. The airstrikes hit a “weapons depot” and “factories” in Hisya area near Homs.

Lebanese media including Annahar newspaper and Lebanon 24 website reported a short while ago that Israel struck weapons depot in Hisya, while Al-Mayadeen TV close to the Syrian government reported that the airstrikes hit “a copper factory” in the area.

The airstrikes were heard in the Bekaa area in Lebanon and were followed by Israeli overflights over the Lebanese-Syrian border. While the Syrian army reportedly fired surface to air missile at Israeli jets, the Israeli army did not confirm either the strikes or being targeted.

In rare step, Israel says it will help Syrian Druze village fend off jihadists - -> https://www.timesofisrael.com/in-rare-s ... jihadists/

Quote:
In a highly unusual move, Israel on Friday said it would defend the Syrian Druze village Hader, hours after a terrorist killed nine people in a suicide bombing just across the border that then sparked clashes between Syrian government forces and rebels.
In a series of tweets, the army’s Arabic spokesman Avichay Adraee said the IDF is prepared to “support the village residents and work to prevent any harm or the occupation of the village, out of a commitment to the Druze population.”

The statement said top military brass on Friday morning were assessing the escalating situation across the border.
Earlier, Syrian state news agency SANA said a jihadist fighter detonated the bomb Friday morning on the outskirts of Hader, in the northern countryside of Quneitra near the Israeli border.

“A suicide bomber from Al-Nusra Front detonated a car bomb in the midst of the homes of citizens on the outskirts of Hader, killing nine people and injuring at least 23,” the agency said.

Druze attack Israeli ambulance carrying wounded Syrians - -> http://www.aljazeera.com/news/2015/06/d ... 47887.html
23 June 2015

Quote:
It said two soldiers who were also inside the vehicle had been lightly wounded.

The statement did not identify the Syrians or give further details about their injuries before the attack.

Over the last two years, Israel has provided medical care to hundreds of Syrians, including fighters, usually transferred from the ceasefire line with the Golan Heights in military ambulances to mainly two hospitals in the north.

The Druze accuse rebels of committing atrocities against their community in Syria and have called on Israel to stop treating injured fighters. Instead they call on the government to protect Syrian Druze and some even want Israel to provide them with weapons and air support against the advances of al-Qaeda's branch in Syria, the Nusra Front.

Israeli MK: IDF helping al-Qaida in Syria at expense of Druse - -> http://www.jpost.com/Arab-Israeli-Confl ... use-467518
September 12, 2016

Quote:
Kulanu MK Akram Hasson issued a harsh rebuke of the IDF on Monday, saying that not only is the army not helping the Druse population caught up in Syria's civil war, it is cooperating with the Nusra Front, al-Qaida's Syrian affiliate.
Hasson's comments in an interview with Channel 2 came amid fierce battles in recent days near the Druse village of Khader in the Syrian Golan Heights.
Hasson accused Israel of being responsible for harm being caused to the Druse population of the Syrian Golan. "The IDF is shelling Syrian army positions, which is enabling the Nusra Front to seize Druse land."
The Kulanu MK further charged that "it is no secret that the IDF is cooperating with [the Nusra Front]. In the past they have told us that the Nusra Front coordinates with the IDF. We don't know? What, were we born yesterday?"
