This article appeared in yesterday's Sunday Business Post.

Quote:
Auditors qualify accounts for MacSharry firm
Auditors have qualified the accounts of a loss-making property company of which Ray MacSharry, the government-appointed director of Irish Life & Permanent, is a member.

Accounts filed by Foresthaze Developments, of which MacSharry is a director and major shareholder, reveal that the company’s auditors were unable to satisfy themselves as to the value of its assets. The Sligo company recently failed to secure planning permission to build 200 houses and apartments on the site of the former Saehan Media plant outside Sligo. The company’s auditors said they had opted to issue a ‘‘qualified opinion’’ on the accounts, as they could not verify the €12.5 million value placed on the site by the directors, nor the €1.9 million value of work in progress.

The auditors said they had ‘‘not obtained all the information and explanations that we considered necessary for the purposes of our audit’’ relating to the site valuation and works in progress. ‘‘The evidence available to us was limited because, although the directors have valued the site and work in progress to the best of their ability, there is no active market from which we could make an assessment of the net realisable value or value in use," they said.
____________

____________

MacSharry’s son, Marc, a Fianna Fail senator, stepped down as a director of Foresthaze last month.

An export company replaced by surplus housing? A poignant sign of the times that were.

McSharry's son was and perhaps still is a middle manager at Anglo.

The son in Anglo (he's still there) is not the same son mentioned in the story.

Carry on.

It's a sizeable institution, for the moment. Mc Sharry's son is indeed in Treasury.

Not the lovely Marc -he's the political heir apparent -with Daddy actively doing all he can to shaft the sitting TD's in the consituency to secure a nomination and seat for the favoured one.

Anglo has over the past decade performed the role that RTE has always played - a place to provide jobs for the otherwise unemployable sons, daughters idiot nephews etc.

Just as an aside - when George Waters was DG of RTE - his chaffeur/driver managed to secure jobs for four perhaps five of his immediate family from the driver's seat.

Now Foresthaze will wash its dirty linen in the Commercial Court.

"Mr. MacSharry has described as "a complete fraud" an accountant who allegedly sought to make secret profits from the deal involving the €11.5 million purchase of the site."

Isn't that where Shay Brennan is?

I'm sure they have lots to chat about.

The plot thickens!

"AN ACCOUNTANT who denies he sought to make secret profits from a deal involving the €11.5 million purchase of a development site in Sligo has claimed former EU commissioner Ray MacSharry and others approved a sale and sub-sale arrangement for the site which was allegedly not disclosed to some investors."
http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ire ... 54446.html

He has taken action against Ray MacSharry snr, Alcantar, Pearse Road, Sligo; Ray MacSharry jnr, Weston House, Johnstown, Naas, Co Kildare; Marc MacSharry, Fatima, Pearse Road, Sligo; Gerard Healy c/o Kevinsfort Ltd, Castle Street, Sligo; Damien Torsney, Merrion Road, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4; and Edward Donaghy and Jacqueline Donaghy, Castletown, Drumcliffe, Co Sligo.

Jacquie Donaghy, now using her maiden name of Davis (she has split from her husband), applied for planning permission last year to build a restaurant at Collooney on land owned by Gerard Healy. Sligo is a small world!
