Here is my suggestion for economic recovery.
Test the entire adult workforce for mathematical ability, more than 2 million people.
Offer a prize for those in the bottom 20% consisting of tickets to various exotic destinations, mexico, cambodia etc.
Cancel the passports and citizenship of these individuals while they are on holiday.
The remaining workforce will then be "above average". As is well known, we have to be "above average" to compete in global markets.
Right, here's another suggestion:
Ireland should still have good contacts on the Olympics Committe thanks to Lord Killanin living here (is/was he Irish?)
Work those contacts to have BOG SNORKELLING made an official sport from the 2016 Olympics onwards.
Then offer tax breaks to allow international world-class bog snorkellers AND their families and trainers come here YEAR ROUND.
Get the global message out there that Ireland has some of the best training bogs ANYWHERE in the world.
And let's start working NOW towards hosting the World Bog Snorkelling Championships in 2013, reckoned to be worth over 85 million euro to the economy.
