More firmly yes now, despite my misgivings.

I cant vote but while I think Yes is the only option, I'm rooting for a No.

1 - Yogi thinks there wont be a second vote, Richard Bruton seems to think there will.

2 - The establishment needs a serious wake-up call.

3 - Someone mentioned that Ireland is already part of a bailout mechanism, a better one than whats on offer.
Why vote now? Why not wait until 2014?

No

18 months into an IMF bailout & expenditure is still increasing. Something needs to be done to put a stop to this stupidity & quickly.

Not voting for the first time ever
An elaborate waste of time with no consequences either way

I thought I had settled on a NO vote but after reading all of the poll threads I'm back to undecided. More to do with the arguments being put forward by the NO camp driving me away than being attracted by arguments from the YES camp.

If we vote YES the status quo will be maintained and nothing much will change for us in the short term. Whereas this will protect those most exposed from vast amounts of immediate pain, I'm not convinced that the government will do enough to ensure that the pain to be taken down the road will be lessened. In fact with the way things have been going so far it may result in larger amounts of pain for a longer period of time, created by borrowing more and more money. Can the gravy train last forever?

If we vote NO there seems to be 2 schools of thought;

1. Nothing will change and everything will be hunky dory because we'll still have access to EU funds. In this case the only reason I can see for holding the referendum at all is to give 2 fingers to the government and the EU. Not that either entity will pay much attention.

2. We will be cut off from funding and everything will go to pot altogether. Will this actually happen? I thought we were in this mess because the ECB didn't want/couldn't let the banks default on their debts. What's changed since Sept 2008 for the ECB to consider losing that money now? If we are cut off would it not be better to have this happen now before we borrow lots more money and have even bigger debts to pay off? I see that a time delay could be advantageous as we could at incrementally close the gap between income and expenditure before we are cut off, thereby allowing us to continue daily life in a somewhat normal manner. But the government don't have the bottle for this and so far have only tinkered around the edges, meaning that in all probability the extra time would not only be wasted but would result in a far bigger problem due to more money having been borrowed in the interim.

God, the more I look at this the more we seem to be screwed no matter what way we turn. I've no knowledge of economics or finance and realise that I'm rambling simplistically.

I would appreciate any answers to questions/rubbishing of thoughts from anyone who knows any better!

Thanks in advance,
M

Maybe, but wouldn't a No vote would give the Government a much deserved kick up the behind.

Nope, you got it exactly right first time. We're screwed.

+1 Nothing simplistic about what you are saying.

You mean they're going to give Ireland a third vote?

NO. More firmly than ever

This is a debt slavery treaty preparing us for more bailouts to keep paying bondholders and keep loading on to the national debt. The establishment want a YES vote: all the overpaid politicians, the public service unions. The establishment got us into this mess.

Saying Yes seems to me to be an approval of what is being done to the Irish people. I can't go along with that
