Michael O'Flynn of O'Flynn Construction (Elysian Tower et al) is building a new phase of Ballincollig town centre beside his company's ghost estate of unfinished unlived in apartments.

http://www.rte.ie/news/2012/0711/ballin ... iness.html

The shopping centre is about 60% occupied at present with Dunnes as anchor tenant. Ballincollig is a town/suburb of Cork city with about 10,000 residents. It already has a Dunnes, two supervalus two aldis and a lidl. Not sure if it needs a tesco.

Maybe he hopes to sell some apartments to the workers......

The mind boggles though.

Only 1 in five? Sure that's nothing. 1 in three seems to be average around me. You need more shops in Ballinacolig.

Ballincollig has a large Dunnes, an Aldi, TWO Lidls, a supervalu and several Centra and garages....by all means bring Tescos in too.....and that is not including the "old" shopping centre close to the Apple Green garage...the town has grown though, no denying that

But there is a lot of empty shopping space in BC - eg 4home's big building is still empty; and inside in the existing "Dunne's" O'Flynn shopping centre there are a lot of empty shops - at least 8, some empty for more than a year eg Dixon's (or was it Curry's?) and Fitzpatrick's the jewellers.....

And on the opposite side of the existing centre, towards the new Garda Station, there are at least 4 STREETS of empty apartments with very empty retail spaces on the ground floor (near Heatons and Toymaster etc)...if they could not fill those, how will they fill the new centre?
